Christmas gift ideas for men!

Do you need some ideas for what to give a man for Christmas? Do you need something personal that says just the right thing?

How about these ideas?

1. A framed vintage ad for something he really loves! Whether it's cars, guns, aftershave, etc. There's bound to be a vintage ad out there just waiting for you to frame it up and give it to him for Christmas!

2. A personal scrapbook filled with pages of his favorite things from the past. Of course, the best place to find images of those things he loves is in vintage ads!

3. A paperweight for his desk...decorated with images from vintage ads!

4. A vintage ad showing the "new" version of that old clunker he has in the garage, the one he's been planning to fix-er-up for years.

5. A vintage ad featuring his favorite old movie star.

What to do?

Now, this may not be a welcome idea to true vintage ephemera collectors, but one thing you can do with old ads is to use them in scrapbooking projects.

There are lots of ideas for "aging" paper, but nothing gives an ad that glorious patina like time.

Let's say you're creating a scrapbook commemorating your father's life. And, let's say he wore workboots all of his life, that would be a case when the Cedar Crest Boot ad would come in handy. You can either use the ad in its full size and simply attach it to a page of the scrapbook, or you can cut out the various pieces and use them to decorate throughout the scrapbook.

The scrapbooking ideas are endless!

What to do?

Let's say you see a vintage magazine ad that you just have to have...so you buy it. Now what? What can you do with it?

One of the simplest things to do with the ad is also one that will make sure you enjoy it on a regular basis: frame it and hang it on the wall.

Look for a frame that doesn't overpower the ad. Let the ad and its artwork be the most noticeable thing about the wall hanging.

Of course, you can hang your framed ad anywhere you'd like, but to make it more relevant, put the hanging in a room connected to the ad. For example, if you buy a vintage car ad, you might want to put the framed ad in your garage. A gun might go in the den, and a food ad in the kitchen.

Due to heat and high humidity, you might not want to hang a vintage ad in the bathroom.

Happy decorating!
